From Deficit to Resilience: Introducing Neuro Social Work for Collaborative Practice

< Back

Short Description

Neuro Social Work offers a justice-informed approach to understanding human behavior, adaptation, and healing that integrates neuroscience, trauma-informed practice, and person-in-environment thinking without reducing people to symptoms, deficits, or diagnoses. It examines brain development, the nervous system, stress, trauma, regulation, and resilience through a social work lens grounded in identity, relationships, context, and systems. Emphasis is placed on applying neurobiological insights to real-world practice with individuals, families, groups, and communities while critically examining how neuroscience is used to avoid decontextualized or overly individualistic interpretations that obscure structural inequities. Participants engage in reflection and case-based discussion to develop concrete, applicable strategies for practice across settings.
