Critical Relational Supervision: Foundations in the CARES Framework

This workshop introduces the CARES framework as a relational, justice-oriented approach to supervision designed for the realities of contemporary practice. Grounded in anti-oppressive principles, participants will explore how the CARES domains—Critical Analysis, Advocacy, Role Clarity, Exposure, and Safety Navigation—can support ethical, reflective, and context-aware supervision amid workforce strain, moral distress, and increasing demands for equity and accountability. Through case-based learning and practical application, supervisors, educators, field instructors, and social work leaders will develop strategies to foster relational safety, navigate power dynamics, and support practitioner growth across diverse practice settings.
